FIGHTING HOMOSEXUALITY: BETRAYAL BY CLERGYMEN

By John Blanshe Musinguzi
It’s ridiculous, am losing the last inch of hope that we can overcome the dilemma of homosexuality even without anti-homosexuality bill. First, I had earlier believed that if church comes out strongly against this ‘evil act,’ Christians would easily accept the influence of clergymen and women. If a pastor can command congregants to eat grass, then he would easily convince then to shun homosexuality. He or she would even encourage them to spread the gospel against it.
Secondly, if traditional leaders declare war against homosexuality, their subjects would listen and follow what they have been told to do. For example if Kabaka Mwenda Mutebi of Buganda roars to baganda that homosexuality is un cultural, most-not all of them would listen and even implement Kabaka’s command.
Alas, this utopian thinking seems futile, cultural and traditional leaders haven’t come out strongly to denounce homosexuality. Religious leaders are as silent as a ‘dead body’ as fighting homosexuality is concerned. Only few have come out calling upon president to assent anti-homosexuality bill which was passed by parliament one month ago.
It clear that president Museveni won’t assent the bill. In an eight page letter addressed to speaker Kadaga and MPs, president accused Kadaga for passing the anti- gay bill without column. He further described the homosexuals as ‘abnormal’ being who can be rescued through economic empowerment.
I have less concern about an economically and politically motivated president who also desire to maintain internationally diplomacy. I also less care about pro- gay ‘activists’ such as Dr Ian Clarke or Richard Branson because they may not understand what bible says about homosexuality.
It the latest revelation, disappointment from clergymen is on rife.
According to BBC online news article, “Archbishops criticise Nigerian and Ugandan anti-gay laws,The Archbishops of Canterbury and York have written to the presidents of Nigeria and Uganda, after being asked about laws there penalising gay people. The letter said homosexual people were loved and valued by God and should not be victimised or diminished. Archbishops Justin Welby of Canterbury and John Sentamu of York said the letter was a result of "questions about the Church of England's attitude to new legislation in several countries that penalises people with same-sex attraction". The letter comes as Archbishop Welby starts a five-day tour of four African countries.
The greatest concern so far has been from religious leaders, who I believe understands and can interoperate for Christians what the bibles say about homosexuals. For example, It undermines the basis of God's created order where God made Adam, a man, and Eve, a woman -- not two men, not two women -- to carry out his command to fill and subdue the earth (Gen. 1:28). Homosexuality cannot carry out that command. It also undermines the basic family unit of husband and wife, the God-ordained means of procreation.
His letter is hilarious, do he know that God destroyed cities of Sodom and Gomorrah partly due to wide spread homosexuality (Gen, 19:1-13)?. The book of Leviticus also echoes about gays, ‘you shall not lie with a male as with woman. It’s an abomination.’
Archbishop Justin Welby is dispensing ‘naked propaganda’ that homosexuals were loved and valued by God, so what?, can he dress his ‘opinion’ with biblical or even natural facts. Africa must unite against this greatest evil of 21st century.
Finally, homosexuality should not be remissible if we aim at eradicating it. Let it start with me and you if you believe that we send it into disarray.
